Corrupt practices at check posts to be probed

Transport Minister has directed RTA officials to conduct an in-depth investigation into the matter and take stringent action against the errant staff.

Hyderabad: Transport Minister Patnam Mahender Reddy on Wednesday directed the Vigilance Wing of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) to conduct a probe into corrupt practices being carried out at border check posts.

C. Ramesh, the Joint Transport Commission-er (Vigilance), told this newspaper that an inquiry into the presence of unauthorised agents at check posts had been launched. He added that the video footage mentioned in the report published in this newspaper on Wednesday was also being examined.

Mr Ramesh said that the person who had collected money from truck drivers in Nirmal was yet to be identified. “We have already launched an investigation. The Principal Secretary of the Transport Depart-ment has also inquired regarding the matter. We are verifying who conducted the surprise checks in Nirmal and who deputed an unauthorised agent to collect money,” he said.
