KOZHIKODE: Unidentified miscreants damaged the car of Chombala rural SI Prajeesh Nandanam, which was parked on the premises of the police quarters at Azhiyoor, near third gate, in the rural limit of Kozhikode early on Tuesday. The tyres, plastic cover and side glasses of the vehicle were gutted in the attack which is supposed to be the result of a rivalry in connection with an earlier case.
By the time the people living on the ground floor of the multi-storied building informed the SI of the attack, the attackers had fled the spot. The police registered a case and investigations were on.

Vijayakumar said that the attack was an indication that the criminals in the area were feeling the heat of the police crackdown. “Frequent arrests of anti-social elements were made in the recent days, which might have provoked those close to the criminals,” the SP said. Meanwhile, an auto taxi of an RMPI worker was also damaged almost at the same time. The worker, Valiya Parambath Ranjith, had bought the auto taxi, two days ago. Ranjith was recently arrested over a fight with a neighbour and was released on bail. Chombala police registered a case.
