CM Pinarayi Vijayan seeks fillip for Malayalam
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan has stressed the need for making Malayalam education mandatory in the state. Speaking in the Assembly in connection with the 60th anniversary celebrations of Kerala’s formation, the Chief Minister said that Kerala was the only place where one could obtain a degree without learning the regional language. Even the Public Service Commission was showing aversion towards Malayalam, he said, adding that the situation should change.
Later speaking at the inauguration of the anniversary celebrations on the Assembly premises, the Chief Minister said that many development programmes would be implemented in the state by taking lessons from the last six decades of the state's formation. In his address, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that there should be a situation where people could live peacefully. Attempts were being made to create communal disturbances in society. He also said that it was high time for retrospection on whether political murders were good for the state. He added that while there was joblessness in the state, migrant labour had become inevitable for the state.
IUML parliamentary party leaders P K Kunhalikutty said that the state should focus on three issues in the coming years - climate change, waste management and financial stability. He said the worsening job scenario in Gulf countries because of localisation posed serious challenges to the state’s economy. But he added that the state had made advancements in various fields including IT. Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan and all parliamentary party leaders spoke on the occasion.
