KU students give ultimatum to sacrifice life, tension prevails in Hanakmkonda

They even warned that they will sacrifice their life on Gandhi Jayanti, if the govt fails to conduct an inquiry into the irregularities

WARANGAL: High tension prevailed when the students of the Kakatiya University who did not get Ph.D seats along with some of the members of the KU-Joint Action Committee reached public garden with tying their hands to each other with iron chains and prepared for sacrificing their lives here in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Hanamkonda on Monday.

It is to be noted here that the KU students had given ultimatum to the state government on Saturday demanding to probe into the irregularities that took place at the university regarding the Ph.D admissions and to lodge a criminal case against the university Vice-chancellor Prof.T. Ramesh who was responsible by October 2.

They even warned that they will sacrifice their lives on Gandhi Jayanti which falls on October 2 if the government fails to conduct an inquiry about the irregularities.

As per the ultimatum given by them, the students reached Public garden early in the morning at 9.00 am tying their hands with chains and staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue.

They invited the university VC, the Commissioner of Police and the deans of various departments to come for discussions on the irregularities that took place by after 12 pm.

Speaking on the occasion, the students alleged that the university officials allotted the Ph.D seats to the persons who did not qualify. Apart from that by violating the norms that only 25 percent of seats must be allotted to the government employees on a part time basis, the officials allotted 90 percent of seats to them by taking money from them.

If there are 10 seats, then by adding one more seat, that seat must be allotted under EWS quota to the eligible candidate, but the officials allotted all the seats under EWS quota to ineligible candidates, they added.

The students who secured second rank in the Political science and Biotechnology subjects were not allotted seats. Moreover, the officials did not include the seats which were left over in the category-I to category-II, they pointed out.

Meanwhile, the police officials reached the public garden in large numbers and tried to convince the students, but when the students did not listen to them, the police forcibly foiled the dharna. By arresting the students and union leaders the police officials shifted them to the Dharmasagar police station.
