Elephants scare, Sec 144 imposed

Visakhapatnam: The Jiyyammavalasa tahsildar imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in several villages in Visakhapatnam district on Monday due to the movement of seven female elephants including a calf. The forest department of Parvathipuram Manyam district sounded an alert in the surrounding villages of Kanapadhora valasa, Pedhavalasa, Subhadramvalasa, Seemanaiduvalasa, Batlabadhra, Nimalapadu, Venkatarajapuram, Yerukulapeta and Gowrimpeta.
District forest officer G.A.P. Prasuna said that some villagers were moving in an intoxicated state close to the elephants, unaware of the danger. The prohibitory orders were issued by the mandal executive magistrate of Jiyyammavalasa to avoid any incidents.
She requested the villagers not to wander in the night and remain indoors. The department has been keenly monitoring the movement of elephants and increased the number of trackers to monitor continuously, she said.
The DFO further said that a single male elephant named Hari was moving on the hill of Nadimmivalasa in Komarada mandal. The villagers of Regulapadu, Peddakerjila, Chinnakerjila, Bujigavalasa, Nadimivalasametta, Kotipam, Janjavathi, Kumarigunta and Artham were asked to be cautious while traveling and suggested not to enter their farms during late evenings and early mornings.
She asked the farmers to take prior information from the concerned beat officers while traveling in those affected areas.
The DFO also asked the villagers to contact forest beat officer K. Satyanarayana camping in Ulipiri on 91 93984 68628 if they sighted the single male elephant Hari and beat officer of Bori M. Kiran on 91 94405 95181 if they saw seven female elephants.
