VACB gets nod to proceed against IAS, IPS officers

The IAS officers had earlier alleged that the vigilance was misinterpreting the court order.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) is understood to have got a legal opinion that there was nothing wrong in proceeding on specific complaints filed against IAS and IPS officers. The legal advisor is believed to have given the go ahead on the strength court order regarding such complaints against public servants. The IAS officers had earlier alleged that the vigilance was misinterpreting the court order. They had pointed out that court order pertained only to cognisable offences.

Vigilance director had sought legal opinion in the wake of the resentment among IAS officers over the “harassment” being caused to them in the name of anonymous petitions and inquiry. The officers had pointed out that as per the Government Order in 1992 there was a set procedure to be adopted on complaints received against public servants.

In the event of a complaint the vigilance director should forward such petitions to the Secretary (Vigilance and Home) and refrain from taking suo motu action. The government would take the call whether the officer against whom the complaint has been made should face inquiry or not.
