Nerul gold, cash heist kingpin held in Tamil Nadu

The police also seized a pistol and six bullets from the arrested man identified as Sudishta Raj.

Chennai: The suspected kingpin in a 27 kg gold worth Rs 7 crore and Rs 15 lakh cash heist reported at a private finance firm at Nerul near Mumbai on August 6 this year, was arrested by police in Thoothukudi on Friday.

The police also seized a pistol and six bullets from the arrested man identified as Sudishta Raj, 45. The police had already arrested his wife Revathi and another associate named Tamil Selvan two weeks ago from Thoothukudi.

After the arrest of Tamil Selvan, 53, his wife and three daughters committed suicide in their house by hanging themselves in Alwarthirunagari in Thoothukudi on September 16.

“The family was embarrassed by the fact that Selvan was involved in such a heist. They were also shocked by the fact that he was having an illicit relationship with Revathi,” noted a member of Srivaikundam police station team that nabbed Sudishta Raj.

He had hidden the gun under a bridge near his house in Muthukrishnapuram, police added. So far, Mumbai police have arrested Arput Nadar, Iqbal Pathan, Shafi, Kumar Thevar and Prakash, Revati and Tamil Selvan.

Sudishta Raj and his other gang members barged into office of a private finance firm on August 6 with pistols in their hand and wearing monkey caps. There were no security guards at the firm’s office.

“A police team from Mumbai is already here. The suspect will be taken to Mumbai after he was produced in a court here on Saturday,” Venkatesan, inspector of Srivaikundam police station, told this newspaper.
