Hyderabad: Submit ATR in tribal woman harassment by police, NHRC tells cops

Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission took cognizance of the incident of a tribal woman allegedly beaten up by the police personnel of LB nagar PS by confining her in the PS during the night and directed the District Magistrate, Rangareddy district and also the Superintendent of Police to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) in the matter within four weeks. The commission also warned to invoke coercive steps if the district officials failed to submit the report positively by the given time.

Earlier, B Karthik Navayan, an advocate with the High Court of Telangana complained to the National Human RIghts Commission on the incident, urging the commission to take action on those responsible and provide compensation to the woman. It may also be noted that the Telangana High Court has also taken suo-moto cognizance of the incident and directed the government and police department to submit a detailed report on the incident. Rachakonda CP DS Chauhan had already placed under suspension two personnel from the LB nagar PS in connection with the incident.
