Houses for poor in R-5 Zone in Amaravati: SC to hear AP's plea in November

Vijayawada: The Supreme Court would hear in November a petition filed by the AP government challenging the AP High Court’s stay order on construction of houses for the poor in the R-5 Zone in Amaravati.

A division bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Pankaj Mittal heard the petition in New Delhi on Friday but refused to issue a stay order as was prayed by the AP government. The bench directed the registry to serve notices on the respondents to file their counters.

The AP government’s senior counsel Abhishek Singhvi submitted to the court that the state government wanted to construct houses sanctioned by the Centre by giving away house sites and take up construction of houses for the poor in R-5 Zone.

The court opined that several issues were to be examined in the case and hence it would hear the matter in detail in November.

The HC, in an interim order on Aug 3, issued a stay on construction of houses in the R-5 zone in Amaravati for providing affordable housing for the poor.
