The celebrations of Ganesh idol immersion turned tragic for a family at Kondamadugu village as one of the members of the family died of drowning in a lake on Monday night.
The deceased, a 45-year-old E Srinivas, was a resident of Kondamadugu village in Bibinagar mandal of Yadadri Bhongir district.
Bibinagar sub-inspector H Raghavender said that the incident took place at the village at about 10 pm on Monday. The family of Srinivas, who are into grocery business had installed a Ganesh Idol at their house. In connection with the immersion of the idol, along with the locals they took out a small procession to the lake.
Srinivas, before immersing the idol, jumped into the waters and swam for some time, and suddenly drowned. His family and locals tried to rescue him, but they could not and then informed the police.
“The police were informed about the incident at about pm. With the help Of professional swimmers, the body of Srinivas was pulled out at around 12:15 am. It is found that Srinivas was under the influence of alcohol when he jumped into waters for swimming. The body has been shifted for the post mortem examination and a case has been registered,” said SI Raghavender.
