Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday quashed the final report in the controversial assistant grade appointment to the Kerala University. Justice B. Kemal Pasha, who ordered further investigation into the case, said, “the investigating officer shall make use of the evidence already collected and shall conduct a further investigation.” The investigating officer shall look into the complaints regarding the missing of OMR sheets relating to the valuation of the answer papers.
“The accused are entitled to know as to what is the offence committed by them in order to defend the charges properly. The present instance is nothing but the denial of the principles of natural justice,” the court observed. It asked the Crime Branch to file a fresh final report before the trial court.
As many as 45,538 university graduates had taken the examination for 350 vacancies. Around 175 of them were appointed. Scores of candidates moved the court questioning the fairness of the selection process. The Crime Branch had filed a chargesheet against seven former KU officials for corruption and favouritism in the appointment to the post of University Assistants (UA) Grade-II in 2005.
