Hyderabad: Couple saved from drowning

Goverdhan and his wife Susheela tried to cross the Pedda Cheruvu culvert in Bhoodan Pochampally on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: A couple’s attempt to cross a swollen stream on their bike in Nalgonda nearly cost them their lives. Fortunately some youths fishing near a stream came to their rescue. Goverdhan and his wife Susheela tried to cross the Pedda Cheruvu culvert in Bhoodan Pochampally on Wednesday.

Though water was flowing above the bridge Goverdhan drove ahead and fell into the water. Both were rescued but their bike was washed away.

G. Goverdhan, a resident of Idriyal village in Nalgonda district, went out with his wife on Wednesday morning. While going, they crossed the overflowing culvert. In the evening while returning they found the current was heavy. Goverdhan drove the bike towards the culvert. Some youths who were fishing warned them but Goverdhan went ahead.

Midway the bike slipped in the heavy current and both of them fell down. Susheela fell to the left and Goverdhan to the right of their bike and they started shouting for help. The youths rushed to their rescue.

They rescued Susheela but Goverdhan was washed away with the bike. Later, he got stuck in the rocks and suffered minor injuries, but was rescued. The bike was washed away. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and discharged after first aid.
