Bengaluru: Survey report today on actor Darshan's house demolition

The anti-encroachment drive, which has slowed down in the last 10 days, is likely to be revived shortly.

Bengaluru: The survey report on the encroachment of drains by actor Darshan and former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa will be reach BBMP on Friday. Ironically, even before the report has reached the BBMP, Irrigation Minister T. B. Jayachandra has said that Darshan's house has not encroached upon the drain.

The anti-encroachment drive, which has slowed down in the last 10 days, is likely to be revived shortly. BBMP chief engineer, Storm Water Drain (SWD) Siddegowda told Deccan Chronicle that revenue authorities have made preparations to survey 35 locations to identify the path of live and active drains. After carrying out the marking, encroachments will be bulldozed. Demolition will be taken up simultaneously at all 35 locations after the survey report reaches BBMP, he added.

Mayor fines contractor
A day after two workers were injured during the TenderSURE road works project in JP Nagar, Mayor Manjunath Reddy has slapped the contract agency RNS Constructions with a fine of Rs 5 lakh.

After inspecting the spot on Thursday, BBMP Mayor N.Manjunath Reddy said “Due to the negligence of the contractor, two workers who were carrying out construction works at JP Nagar 1st Phase on Wednesday got trapped in a mudslide. Fire tender was summoned and the workers were rescued. They are out of danger.”

Mayor charged the contractors for their lackadaisical attitude. He took the BBMP engineers to task for not being present on the spot when the works were in progress. He ordered the engineers to be present at the work site everyday.

Meanwhile potholes have already started to develop on the 1.47-km stretch of Cunningham Road, which redone as per TenderSURE standards. Getting a pothole-free road has become a challenge to the BBMP, even after spending crores of rupees and adhering to international standards. The road was redone at a whooping cost of Rs 12 crore and opened to traffic in May, 2015. Three potholes have been sighted in the stretch.
