Rains throw traffic out of gear in Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Roads were inundated after a brief spell of rain in Secunderabad on Monday morning, throwing traffic out of gear and forcing bikers and pedestrians run for cover. Several people caught in rain unawares parked their two-wheelers roadsides and took under metro stations creating traffic snarls in many areas.

As potholes were not visible due to inundation in several areas, commuters had to stop mid-way fearing accidents.

Adding to the woes, motorists started using roads according to their convenience by driving on the wrong sides. According to the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) officials, Rasooslpura faced several issues as the water entered many houses. In less than 45 minutes of rain, several complaints were sent to the SCB. “Our teams have already been deployed at several areas and are working on reducing inundation. As soon as we get complaints, we directly inform the teams working on the field,” said an official.

Raja Malleshwari, a resident of the Vishnupuri Colony, East Anandbagh, said, “A pit has been dug for over six months. Due to rains, the entire pit is covered in water making it impossible for a person to identify the pit. It is very difficult for the residents to go out, especially for children,” she said.
