Uprooted tree disrupts water supply in Thiruvananthapuram

KSEB officials could not reinstate electricity until 11.30 am on Monday and pipes in the city dried up.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Trivandrumites woke up to a dry Monday morning as water supply across the city was disrupted following a power outage at Aruvikkara pumping station. The supply got cut off as an Acacia tree got uprooted and fell on the electricity line at Chithirakunnu near Bali Kadavu Aruvikkara around 9 pm on Sunday night.

As a result, pumping to the Peroorkada and Thirumala side stopped. The supply in the city was already affected for the past two days due to various pipe bursts and maintenance works. KSEB officials could not reinstate electricity until 11.30 am on Monday and pipes in the city dried up. Two plants towards Vellayambalam were not affected but another power outage at Vattiyoorkavu affected the pumping at PTP Nagar.

Areas like Kuriyathi and Manacaud were affected and supply to certain areas at Kumarapuram, Sreekariyam Medical College etc were affected. This derailed the schedule of office goers. “The overhead tanks at Thiruvallam were to be filled up because of Vavubali. Brisk pumping could be done there in the evening. The water supply will be normal before Tuesday morning,” said Kerala Water Authority Executive Engineer Thomas Issac.
