Cabinet set to decide on Light Metro
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet meeting on Wednesday will take a decision on Light Metro Rail (LMR) projects under the Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC) in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. It will also consider the design of three flyovers in the capital coming up as part of it.
E. Sreedharan, the chief advisor of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, called on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Monday in his chamber and held an awareness session for legislators and respective mayors along with works minister G. Sudhakaran. After an inordinate delay, the project is expected to take off now, finally. Though there are four flyovers here, the government has approved three of them.
The major work would begin with the flyovers at Pattom, Sreekariyam and Ulloor while the approval for the last one at Thampanoor is pending. “The flyover construction is going to be the major work that comes under the LMR project. Hopefully, the design of the flyover at Thampanoor would also be approved soon,” said a top official at the KRTC.
Legislators V. S. Sivakumar, K. Muraleedharan and C. Divakaran attended the presentation by Sreedharan while MLAs from Kozhikode were conspicuous by their absence. Kozhikode mayor Thottathil Raveendran and Thiruvanantha-puram mayor V. K. Prashanth also attended and all the leaders expressed confidence in the project and expressed their desire to speed it up.
