BJP members burn copies of Pondicherry University students' mag

Earlier the university administration in press statement said the university has no role in the published contents of the magazine.

Puducherry: Nearly 150 people from right-wing outfits, headed by local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, burnt copies of the students’ council magazine of Pondicherry University named ‘Widerstand’ in front of the university gate on Monday.

The protesters claimed that the book intends to defame the NDA government. BJP leaders demanded a ban on the magazine and dismissal of the magazine committee members. It also sought action against the university vice chancellor (VC) for giving permission to publish the magazine, and will write a letter to the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) demanding the same, said V. Saminathan , state president of BJP Puducherry unit.

Earlier the university administration in press statement said the university has no role in the published contents of the magazine. The magazine, which stood in solidarity with the students’ movements on Indian campuses, has criticised policies of the NDA government.
