Bengaluru: Woman, 2 sons smother alcoholic hubby to death
Bengaluru: A woman along with her two sons was arrested for smothering her alcoholic husband to death at their residence in Chandra Layout and later trying to pass it off as suicide.
They had rushed him to a nearby hospital, claiming that he had committed suicide and was found hanging from the ceiling.
The deceased, Palanivelu, 44, was a cab driver. The accused have been identified as Kavitha, 37, her elder son, Rajavelu, an engineering student, and a 17-year-old minor whose name was not disclosed.
The police said the family stayed at Arundadthinagar in Chandra Layout. Palanivelu often used to assault and harass his wife and sons. Upset over his behaviour, Kavitha with her sons smothered him while he was asleep.
Early on Sunday morning, Rajavelu took him to a hospital saying that they found him hanging. As it was a case of suicide, the doctors alerted the police.
Meanwhile, the family had arranged an ambulance to take the body to Tamil Nadu for his last rites. The Chandra Layout police grew suspicious and intercepted the vehicle. They shifted the body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.
The police then interrogated his wife Kavitha, who confessed to the crime. The police arrested them and handed them over to judicial custody.
