K S Bimal now a cultural icon

Poet Rafeek Ahamad inaugurated the commemorative meet held in Edachery in the evening.

Kozhikode: The stone-laying ceremony of the K.S Bimal memorial cultural village was held on the first death anniversary of the left rebel leader in Edachery near Vadakara. Noted architect Eugene Pandala inaugurated the function. Poet Rafeek Ahamad inaugurated the commemorative meet held in Edachery in the evening.

A memorial column designed by Rajesh K. Edachery was also unveiled at Bimal’s house. Versification, essay writing and other competitions were held for students and the public. An open theatre, space for drama rehearsal, painting exhibition hall, library and reference room, children’s park etc has been envisioned in the project which will come up on an acre of land bought on the shore of Vadakara-Mahi canal.

The village has been conceptualized in the manner that artistes could stay and present programmes. Several friends of Bimal are behind the project and a1000 of them had joined hands to make the village a reality. Mr Pandala is the architect of the project which is expected to be completed by next year.

‘Bimal Anusmarana Samiti’ will be organizing a slew of programmes in Vadakara and Edachery in the coming days. A state-level 3-day theatre fest would be held in Vadakara townhall from July 4 with the participation of six major amateur theatre groups. The theatre fest will be an annual event.
