Vijayawada to have two new water reservoirs

The deputy mayor said Christurajupuram and Ramalingeswara Nagar, though being in the city, are facing acute drinking water shortage

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will construct two new water reservoirs at a cost of Rs. 8 crore for supplying drinking water to people of the city, announced Vijayawada deputy mayor Bellam Durga on Tuesday.

She was responding to complaints about inadequate supply of drinking water
in various areas of Vijayawada East constituency. Corporators and
constituency in-charge Devineni Avinash were among those who participated in
the meeting.

Avinash pointed out that people living in hilly areas are facing severe
difficulties in getting drinking water supply as pipelines have been damaged
and there are no overhead water tanks in the area.

The deputy mayor herself said Christurajupuram and Ramalingeswara Nagar,
though being within the heart of city, are facing acute drinking water
shortage.

In this regard, Bellam Durga instructed officials to initiate measures to
resolve the drinking water problem by constructing two new water reservoirs
at a cost of Rs. 4 crore each. She further directed that pipelines be
repaired or replaced and storm water drains cleaned to resolve issues of
water overflowing and stagnating on roads.
