A man in Tamil Nadu has been arrested for allegedly offering his daughter as a human sacrifice to a local deity. He was allegedly put to it by an astrologer, who told him it would fetch him a forture.
The incident happened at Nodiyur village near Gandarvakottai in Pudukkottai disrtrict.
Police have arrested five people, including the man and the soothsayer, a woman.
Police said the teenage girl went to fetch water from the village tank on May 18 but did not return home. She was later found struggling for her life due to injuries inflicted on her. She was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital at Thanjavur, where she succumbed on May 19.
Initially, police suspected it to be a case of sexual assault, but the post mortem report found otherwise.
Following this, police took it the girl's father Panneerselvam for questioning and he admitted to the crime. The soothsayer had put him to it, promising him great fortune if he performed a human sacrifice. A further investigation is going on.
