Street dogs kill sambar deer in Madhira

The sambar had come out from the subabul groves in search for water when the dogs surrounded and attacked it

Khammam: Street dogs killed a sambar deer in the fields of Kambhampadu village in Madhira mandal on Sunday. The sambar had come out from the subabul groves in search for water when the dogs surrounded and attacked it.

Sambathini Pullaiah, a farmer, stepped in and drove the dogs away and remained at the spot till the forest staff reached the spot. Pullaiah told Madhira forest ranger Vijayalaxmi of the incident who called up veterinarian Dr Laxman Rao. The sambar, however, died while undergoing treatment. The carcass was buried after conducting the inquest.

FRO Vijayalaxmi said, "We thought of shifting the sambar to the Kinnerasani wildlife sanctuary if it recovered.” She said the subabul groves spread over thousands of acres in Bonakal and Madhira mandals had a lot of wildlife.
