Thunderstorm: One dies in wall collapse

Mayor inspects spot, orders officials to file plaint against goshala.

Bengaluru: The pre-monsoon shower that lashed city on Tuesday evening claimed one life and brought the city to its knees as major arterial and sub-arterial roads got waterlogged.

A compound wall of Goshala at Bagmane Tech Park in Garudacharpalya collapsed on a pedestrian. The deceased has been identified as Shiva Reddy, an employee of a private firm and hailing from Prakasam in Andhra Pradesh.

The collapse happened while he was returning home. He sustained head injuries and later succumbed.

A complaint has been registered against the Goshala authorities following an instruction by Mayor Gangambike.

She also inspected the collapsed wall and directed officials and engineers to be on alert and work round the clock to attend the citizens' complaints.

A numbers of cases of tree fall were also reported during Tuesday's rain. Complaints were registered from Azadnagar, Basavanagudi, Sadashivanagar, Banasawadi, Kavalbyrasandra and Jayanagar areas.

Traffic flow was affected at major roads in the city. The underpass near Le Meridien hotel got inundated and this affected the traffic flow on Kempegowda International Airport Road.

Many areas in the city face power outages following heavy rains.

Attend to all plaints: Mayor

Following Tuesday's downpour, Mayor Gangambike directed officials at the control room to attend all the distress calls and depute teams to remove uprooted trees and clear water logging in low lying areas.

She also directed engineers to identify the dilapidated walls and weak retaining walls of the drains and fix them.

30 corporators may lose BBMP membership

Around 30 corproators may lose their BBMP membership as they have failed to submit details of their assets and liabilities within the stipulated time.

Regional Commissioner Shivayogi Kalasad has dashed off a letter to BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad asking him to give a list of corporators who have failed to submit details of assets and liabilities within the stipulated time to the BBMP commissioner.

An activist and president of Navbharat Democratic party Anil Shetty has sought action against the corproators under Section 19 of Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act. Declaration of assets is mandatory for corporators within
