In debt, man gets friends to rob bro

The police examined the CCTV footage and made note of the registration number of the vehicle used for the crime.

Bengaluru: In a strange case, Koramangala police arrested a man for hiring people to rob his brother, and recovered Rs 6 lakh.

The complainant – Muniyappa, a resident of Mestripalya near Koramangala and working for a gutkha agency – had gone to a shop near Krupanidhi College in Koramangala to get the dues for the deliveries made and collected `6 lakh in cash. As he was walking back, two people came on a scooter, snatched the cash bag from Muniyappa and fled the spot. As Muniyappa stood stunned, passersby advised him to file a police complaint.

The police examined the CCTV footage and made note of the registration number of the vehicle used for the crime. They traced the vehicle and detained its owner, who revealed that the robbery was planned by Muniyappa's elder brother Murugan.

A senior police officer said, "During the investigation, it was learnt that Murugan had hired a few of his friends and planned to rob his brother. Murugan, who is a cab driver, is deep in debt and had borrowed money from his friends and relatives. He was not able to repay the money and decided to rob his brother, as he knew Muniyappa carried large amounts of money every day. On April 24, he learnt that Muniyappa was carrying cash and alerted his friends, who snatched away the bag. They had planned to rob Muniyappa on April 22 near City Market but failed due to heavy traffic."

He said, "We have now arrested Murugan and his friends Hemanth, Basavaraj, Santosh and Arun. The case is being further investigated to check if they are involved in any other similar crimes."
