Inspired by Hawkings, Gattu Mythreya wants to spread Physics love
Hyderabad: Gattu Mythreya, 17, scored the fifth All India Rank in JEE Mains from Telangana. Mythreya’s favourite subject is Physics, which he has chosen as his career by teaching the subject.
He has made his interest in his favourite subject evident by scoring the highest marks in Physics (120) along with Maths and Chemistry in JEE Mains. Teaching Physics enables one to stay in touch with the subject, which is not often possible in other professions, he says.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he says, “While teaching my favourite subject, I would also like to do research in Physics. Teaching Physics at the university gives you the best opportunity stay in touch with the subject and pursue research in it. I have been working hard over the past few years for the competitive exams. I used to write a test every 20 days before the exams to judge my performance.”
Apart from academics, Mythreya is also fond of reading and reads eBooks during his free time. He said, “I love to read books of different genres like Geography, Wildlife, Animals, Science, mainly physics subject. I also love to play badminton, but these days I don’t get enough time to focus on shuttle.”
I played shuttle till intermediate but for the past two years I’ve not been able to play shuttle. The great physicist Stephen Hawking was my inspiration and the world lost a great scientist with his passing. I also enjoy travelling, and I have travelled to many states like Rajasthan and Kerala with my family. I keenly want to go for a trip after I am placed at a top IIT institute, he adds.
Gattu Anuradha, mother of Gattu Mythreya, who hails from Uppal, Hyderabad, told Deccan Chronicle, “My son is a hard worker and his aim is to study engineering in IIT Mumbai. He has already been selected in the National Talent Search Exam (NTSE), the Kishore Vaigyanik Parishad (KVP) in Bangalore and the National Science Olympiad.”
Mythreya’s father G. Rambhav is the Chief Operating Officer at the Adani Group power plant in Hyderabad.
Hemanth Kumar, who ranked second in the JEE, said he loves to watch cricket, especially the IPL matches and likes to play video games.
“Though I love to watch cricket, I try to watch cricket matches these days while eating or relaxing so that I don’t waste time in watching matches because this is a very crucial time of my life.”
Appreciating the second ranker K.V.R Hemanth, S. Raghukumar, Dean for Sri Chaitanya IIT Academy- Visakhapatnam said, “He is a very calm and quiet student, always focusing on his studies. He always followed the instructions of his teachers and he is very punctual in completing assignments.”
He adds, “He is very keen and clear in what he knows and what he doesn’t know about a subject so he would always approach his teachers and used to interact with them about whatever he doesn’t knows. He is always timebound in his practise and is very fond of IPL matches.”
