Zoo helps animals chill it in summer

HYDERABAD: With the hot season setting in, the Nehru Zoological Park here has made arrangements to prevent summer stress and heat stroke among animals.

The lawns and gardens are being watered to keep the enclosures and surrounding green and cool to protect animals, birds, and reptiles in the zoo.

An official said more than 200 sprinklers and small rain guns had been fixed in all enclosures and more than 1,000 foggers installed in the reptile house and other places. More than 1,000 kgs of thunga grass had been spread on the roof of the night house enclosure.

Air coolers, air conditioners and exhaust fans have been fixed in monkey enclosures, nocturnal animal houses and cub-rearing centres.

Temporary shades have been set up for the herbivore sections.

The veterinary section is also providing vitamin supplements and oral rehydration to avoid summer stress.
