Palm Sunday celebrated across city churches

HYDERABAD: Christian faithful in large numbers celebrated Palm Sunday in churches across the city on Sunday. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy Week during the season of Lent. This marks the commencement of Holy Week prayers, which conclude with Easter celebrations the following Sunday (April 9).

During the special prayers and solemn masses, the faithful took part in processions holding coconut palms. Palm Sunday symbolises Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem mounted on a donkey ahead of his death on the cross and resurrection.

Prayers were held at St Mary’s Basilica in Secunderabad, St Joseph’s Cathedral, Gunfoundry, St Theresa's church, Erragadda, Centenary Methodist church, Nampally, CSI Wesley church, Ramkote and St Paul’s CSI church, Sanathnagar, among several others.
