Thiruvananthapuram: One more held in Barton Hill murder
Thiruvananthapuram: One more person has been arrested in connection with Barton Hill Ani murder case on Monday. The arrested has been identified as Manoj who helped prime accused Jeevan commit the murder.
Ani was consuming alcohol along with Manoj. It was Manoj who informed Jeevan that Ani was in an inebriated state. Even though the police who reached the spot after being alerted by local residents took him to hospital, he succumbed to injuries on the same night. Jeevan went absconding soon after the incident.
Earlier, Jeevan was taken into custody from his hideout in Tamil Nadu by shadow police who were part of the investigation team and brought to the city on Thursday late night. The arrest was recorded on Friday.
Jeevan allegedly committed the murder just two days after he was summoned and questioned by the Museum police about his current activities as part of the special drive Operation Bolt being conducted to curb criminal activities in the city.
There were rumours was that Jeevan surrendered before the investigation team.
It was on March 24, Jeevan allegedly murder K.S. Ani, 40, after brutally attacking him with sharp weapons following personal rivalry between the two.
Both of them were once accomplices to notorious gangster Gundukad Sabu with several crime cases recorded at various police stations in their name.
Ani had left the gang a decade ago. Later, he developed a feud with Jeevan around few months over personal issues. This was after Ani and accomplices carried an attack on the family members of Jeevan in which the Jeevan’s sister was left injured.
The accused, incidentally, had been placed under preventive detention recently during the Operation Bolt drive to rein in violent gangs and the drug mafia.
However, he got bail and engaged again in criminal activities. Jeevan was also held under KAAPA a year ago.
