Hyderabad: Bus stranded in RUB, 60 passengers in hullabaloo
Hyderabad: 60 passengers travelling in a private bus hired by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) had a nightmarish experience when their bus got stuck in a road under bridge (RUB) near Rail Nilayam for more than an hour.
Bus number TS 08UB 4766 belonging to Kukatpally depot and was on its way from Kolanupaka in Jangaon district to Jagathgirigutta, when it got stuck because of waterlogging due to the unexpected rain. The stormwater drain in the RUB was blocked by the GHMC to facilitate new pipeline works.
Passengers were infuriated by the delayed response of the police and GHMC officials. They said that they dialled 100 immediately, but help arrived over half an hour later.
Initially, a crane was sent in to pull the bus out, but because of the heavy flow of water it was unable to proceed beyond a point, and it had to return. Later, the GHMC staff removed the blockage and opened the stormwater drain, allowing the water level to recede. The bus was then pulled out and the passengers were moved to safety.
