Jacob Thomas should be sacked: M M Hassan

Mr Chennithala alleged breach of conventions and legal formalities in the government move.

MALAPPURAM: KPCC president M.M. Hassan has demanded a department-level investigation and action against vigilance director Jacob Thomas for allegedly acting beyond his authority in the Jisha murder investigation. Welcoming the government’s decision to send him on an "endless leave," he said he was not a person of high integrity, and he should be sacked. “Mr Thomas has misused his power as the vigilance head by conducting a further investigation into the Jisha murder case. It was an encroachment onto the exclusive zone of the police while his authority is confined under the Prevention of Corruption Act,” he alleged.

Mr Hassan was speaking after the KPCC political affairs committee meeting held here. He had written to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday seeking the same. Earlier in the day, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the handing over his charge to state police chief Loknath Behera was illegal.

The KPCC meeting was held here in the wake of the April 12 by-election in the Malappuram Lok Sabha seat where the Congress is on a high decibel campaign for the UDF candidate, P.K. Kunhalikutty. Senior party leaders A.K Antony and Jairam Ramesh would join them on April 8. Meanwhile Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has alleged a conspiracy behind the ouster of Vigilance director Jacob Thomas and asked Chief Minister to reveal the real reasons. Mr Chennithala alleged breach of conventions and legal formalities in the government move.
