Chennai kids go on virtual tour to space station
Chennai: Making their first tryst with virtual reality, 53 children of the Maranatha Arche Children home in Kanchipuram visited an international space station on Saturday.
The programme was held under the corporate social responsibility of Mumbai-based Epoch Aerospace, an entrepreneurship venture of aeronautical engineer Ravi Iyer. He introduced children to the basics of aeronautical and aerospace systems.
The aeronautical and aerospace company conducts virtual reality workshops exclusively for the students of various age groups across cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad.
Students of the home were thrilled when equipment like piston engine, jet engine, helicopter, wind tunnel rocket launching station and A-380 scale model were demonstrated.
The children had a glimpse of basics of the history of aviation, laws and principles, types and parts of an aircraft in one session, and in the next session, they were shown wind tunnel experiments in aerodynamics and live jet engine demonstration in propulsion session.
In the concluding programme, they were taken on a virtual reality tour of an international space station in addition to rockets and missiles mechanism along with helicopter demonstration.
