VS Achuthanandan revives Krishna Pillai memorial attack issue

Achuthanandan said CPM or CPM workers had nothing to do with the incident.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Friday alleged conspiracy behind the delay in nabbing the actual culprits involved in the vandalism of P Krishna Pillai’s bust in Kanjikuzhy.

In a statement, Achuthanandan said two years had passed since the incident took place but the successive probe teams had failed to nab the culprits. Those who were made accused initially had even approached the High Court seeking the transfer of the case to CBI. However, the government is not prepared to recommend CBI probe.

It may be recalled that immediately after crime branch registered cases against five persons including Achuthanandan’s former aide Latheesh B Chandran and local committee secretary Kannarkat P Sabu, who were expelled by CPM. And when Achuthanandan opposed the decision, the secretariat censured him.
The timing of veteran leader's statement has raised several eyebrows as CPM state leadership had dubbed the accused as "traitors."

Achuthanandan said the government had constituted a new team and the DGP had even informed the HC that the investigations would be completed within six months. However, ten months have passed but investigating agency is yet to complete the probe or file chargesheet.

Achuthanandan said the probe team had deliberately portrayed the incident as result of factional feud in CPM and arrested innocent people to save the real culprits.

The best was vandalised when Chennithala was KPCC president and within hours he had attributed the crime to CPM factionalism. Later the police went by Chennithala’s statement.

The opposition leader said Ramesh Chennithala and his police were playing politics despite justice Alexander Jaob's directive against political interference and for free and fair probe into the incident.

He said the accused in case had sought brain mapping and lie detection test several times but probe officials declined to accept their request owing to their ulterior designs. Despite getting full details about actual culprits, the cops had neither taken them into custody nor questioned them.

Achuthanandan said CPM or CPM workers had nothing to do with the incident.
“At least now the government should hand over the case to upright officers,” he demanded.
