Kerala: CBSE wants GPS, CCTV on school buses

There should be a fire extinguisher and a qualified attendant in the bus, the CBSE said.

Thiruvananthapuram: The CBSE has issued new guidelines for school buses insisting that they should be equipped with GPS, CCTV and speed governors. The CBSE in a circular said that the management and the head of the school will be held responsible for any lapse which may lead to cancellation of the affiliation also. All school buses must be painted with uniform colour, preferably yellow, with the name of the school written prominently on both sides of the bus. The words ‘School bus’ must be written on the back and front and a hired bus should indicate ‘On school duty.’

The bus should carry the telephone number of the school or any contact person. The windows should be fitted with horizontal grills and mesh wire. The doors should be fitted with reliable locks.

All school buses must be fitted with speed control devices to limit the speed to 40 kmph. There should be a fire extinguisher and a qualified attendant in the bus, the CBSE said.
