TS HC Issues Notices to Government on Allocation of Rs 2.45 Crore to Tablighi Jamaat

Hyderabad: Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Telangana state, Secretary, minority welfare department, District Collector of Vikarabad, Chief Executive Officer of State Wakf Board and Tablighi Jamaat directing them to respond to the notices by January 23 on the allocation of funds for organising a religious congregation at Parigi in Vikarabad district.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by MD Afsar Pasha, who urged the court to suspend government orders issued by the secretary, minority welfare department, allocating fund to the tune of Rs.2.45 crore to a Delhi-based NGO Tablighi Jamaat to hold a religious congregation on from January 6 to 8.

Senior counsel Vivek Reddy, appearing for the petitioners, submitted to the court that the Wakf funds cannot be allotted by the government, as of its choice. Further, he submitted that the allocation of funds to an NGO is in violation of Wakf provisions and requested the court to direct the government to recover the amount, if already it was released to the beneficiary.

The judge directed the respondent authorities and Tablighi Jamaat to submit their contentions on the petition by January 23.
