Bengaluru Schools Get Bomb Threats, Bomb Search on
BENGALURU: As many as 15 private schools of Bengaluru City on Friday received bomb threats and the threats were received by respective school managements over phone calls and e-mail. Upon receiving the information of the bomb threat, police conducted searches at the schools which received threat calls.
The previous year on December 1, as many as 30 schools had received such threat mails and searches by the police and bomb detection squad personnel found the call to be a hoax. It may be recalled here that a 17-year-old youth had sent bomb threats to schools in Varthur vicinity and he was nabbed by the police. He belongs to Tamil Nadu.
On Friday, the schools coming under the police station limits of Basaveshwaranagar, Yelahanka and Sadashiva Nagar of Bengaluru city have received threat calls and acting on the threat call, police, as a precautionary measure, evacuated the students from the classroom to conduct searches to detect any bomb placed inside the school premises.
One of the schools which got threat mail was St Joseph’s Boys Highschool and its Principal sent messages to the parents that students are safe and no need to worry. Adding, the message said, parents will be alerted if there is a need.
Over the bomb threats to the schools, Commissioner of Police B. Dayanand said that preliminary investigation indicated that the bomb threat could be a hoax and stated that police and bomb detection squad personnel are at work.
The Commissioner pointed out that such calls were received in the past as well in the City schools and then police found that the threats calls were hoax. Persons involved in hoax calls have been arrested. He appealed to the parents not to panic over bomb threats and exuded confidence that the threat mails and calls would turn out to be a hoax.
Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru City incharge Minister D.K. Shivakumar visited NEEV Academy in Sadashiva Nagar and stated that Bengaluru City cyber police are active to trace the persons involved in sending threat mails/ calls. “We have to be alert,” said the Deputy Chief Minister and expressed confidence that the cyber crime police would be successful in tracing the senders of bomb threats to schools.
