One killed as tree falls on rickshaw in Kollam
Kollam: One person was killed and another seriously injured in heavy rains that showed its fury in Kollam. Vishnu, 40, of Kunnavakkadu in Kulathupuzha died after a tree fell over an auto rickshaw he was driving near Kulathupuzha on Thursday afternoon. In another incident of tree fall, Rajeev, 40, of Puthen Veedu in Kazhuthurutty, has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram MCH with grave injuries. Vehicular traffic along the Kollam – Thirumangalam national highway stalled completely for at least an hour after trees fell on to the road near Aryankavu by 12 pm on Thursday.
The Kollam district collector has declared holiday for schools in the district on Friday. It has also been directed to make available the service of trained medical staff including doctors will be available in all primary and community health centers in the district on Thursday night. Vehicular traffic has also been restricted along the hilly areas of the district after 6 pm on Thursday foreseeing chances of land slides. The entry of tourists to Courtallam waterfalls near Shenkotta has also been restricted owing to heavy water current.
A fishing boat named Perumpalli, registered at Neendakara owned by Kavanadu resident Soman, went missing at sea in Muttam in Kanyakumari. The boat had ten workers on board. The Neendakara fisheries station has handed over the message to coast guard for further inquiry. Another row boat Koratti Mata capsized near Neendakara and five workers were rescued by other boats. Two boats that set off for fishing from Moothakkara in Vadi has not returned, according to a message received by Neendakara fisheries station.
