Broken shutter: Stored KRP dam water wasted for 2nd day

Around 10,000 cusecs now flows into the river due to the fault that brought down the storage level of KRP.

Krishnagiri: The water stored in the KRP dam of Krishnagiri district was wasted for the second day on Thursday as the faulty shutter that opened allowing discharge into the river is not closed.

While two senior PWD engineers Murugan and Subramanian have come from Chennai to check for possible measures that could be taken to save KRP from draining its storage level in toto, they after assessing the damages said the faulty shutter needs to be replaced with a new one.

However, the technical team has to wait till the dam's storage level came down to 32-feet in height to start the repair works.

Around 10,000 cusecs now flows into the river due to the fault that brought down the storage level of KRP. On Thursday evening the storage level was recorded as below 46-ft in height against 51-ft the previous day. The total storage capacity of the dam is 52-ft in height, when water touches the brim level at KRP.
