Kochi: A bypass at Angamaly, the meeting spot of the Main Central Road and the NH-47, and another at the congested Perumbavoor region are finally set to be a reality. The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has allocated Rs 193 crore for first phase of the Angamaly bypass project, when a five-km long, 25-metrer wide road linking Karayamparambu with the Angamaly railway station will be constructed. The KIIFB board, which met at in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, also gave nod to Perumbavoor bypass project for which a sum of Rs 135 crore was granted.

"The KIIFB board approved the project that the state government had included in the 2016-16 budget. It was a long-pending demand of the local residents. This would resolve congestion of the town,” said Angamaly MLA Roji M. John. KITCO was entrusted with the feasibility study back in 2013, however, the project got delayed indefinitely. The agency finally prepared a detailed project report with an estimated project cost of Rs 392 crore.

However, the KIIFB said it could not meet the huge project cost in one go and it was decided to implement the project on two stages. "As per the agreement, KITCO prepared a revised DPR lowering the first phase project cost to Rs 193 crore," Mr John said. "The Perumbavoor town is currently much congested and a bypass is the need of the hour with the vehicle population continuing to grow," said Perumbavoor MLA Eldose P. Kunnapillil.
