Tangedco prepares precautionary measures to prevent loss of lives
Chennai: With the cyclonic storm ‘Nada’ set to cross the Tamil Nadu coast on December 2, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation has swung into action to take precautionary measures to prevent loss of lives due to electrical accidents and also to restore power in the event of disconnection.
An official release of the Tangedco said that a team of officers and staff headed by a director and a chief engineer of Villupuram distribution Region rave been instructed to camp in Cuddalore from November 30 night while chief engineer of Tiruchy will camp in Nagapattinam.
“Sufficient stock of all materials including poles, distribution transformers, conductors have been made available in these areas to carry out restoration works immediately in times of any exigency,” the release said, adding that arrangements have been made to divert additional manpower from other districts.
“All officers have been instructed to be available in head-quarters during this period to monitor the situation closely and act quickly, so as to maintain power supply as well as safety of the public," it added.
Tangedco said that it has been instructed to switch off the power supply when the wind speed is high as a precautionary measure to avoid electrical accident. “The power supply will be restored after the wind recedes to a safer limit and ensuring the healthiness of the electrical system and after rectification of damages,” it said.
Tangedco has given instruction to officials of all the districts, particularly coastal districts of Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Villupuram, Kancheepuram, Chennai and Tiruvallur to take precautionary measures in the view of cyclonic storm alert.
“We appeal to the public who are stepping out of their homes or to agriculture fields to be cautious and look out for snapped conductors. Please contact the nearby Tangedco office if they found a snapped cable or spark in distribution transformer or pillar boxes,” it appealed.
