All hawkers on NSC Bose Road shifted to Ennore, Chennai corpn tells Madras HC
Chennai: The Chennai corporation has informed the Madras high court that all families (encroachers) on NSC Bose Road have been shifted to alternate site provided at Ennore, huts have been demolished and road work is in progress.
This was stated in the report filed on behalf of the Chennai corporation before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T.S.Sivagnanam when the contempt petition filed by social activist Traffic Ramaswamy relating to removal of encroachments on NSC Bose road came up for hearing on Tuesday.
Recording the same, the bench said the petitioner has filed a rejoinder annexing some photographs. He has also annexed the letter dated October 17, 2016, of the chairman of the Hawking Zone Implementation Committee, which sought to suggest that any encroachment on the southern side of the NSC Bose road has to be evicted.
Similarly, for 114 hawkers, who were members of Chennai Maanagara Thesiya Siruvyabarigal Sangam, the temporary allotment cannot be implemented and should be allotted elsewhere.
“On perusal of the photographs, we thought to put a query to the counsel for the Corporation as to what the yellow tenting with blue roof top was.
G.Chockalingam, executive engineer, present in court, states that these hawkers have been permitted in pursuance to the directions of the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court has permitted a height of 6 to 7 feet for such tenting as it exists.
“We would like to have the benefit of the order of the Supreme Court for our perusal. List the matter on January 17, 2017. In the meantime, the remaining work be completed”, the bench added.
