Kozhikode: Madrasa teacher takes his six kids for MR vaccination

The department of social and preventive medicine at Government Medical College Hospital here honoured him and his children.

KOZHIKODE: P. Abdu Rahiman Musliyar, a madrasa teacher, is out to prove wrong the propaganda that the measles-rubella (MR) vaccination aims at shrinking the Muslim community. He along with his six children took part in the MR campaign in his hometown of Mavoor inspiring hundreds of others. He brought all his five children to their school for vaccination, and the government has honoured him as ‘Pradhirodha Nayakan’ or hero of resistance and took him to various functions in the city.

On Tuesday the department of social and preventive medicine at Government Medical College Hospital here honoured him and his children. “Days after the government launched the MR vaccine, it is busy dispelling myths about the vaccine. Our community just as they wary polio drops is anxious that the harm due to the vaccine is bigger than the benefit," he told the gathering. "The rumour that vaccines are an instrument used by the government to shrink Muslim community started circulating in no time, the result is that people are skipping the state-sponsored drive and it failed to reach many children." The head of the department, Thomas B., gave him a memento.
