Families want health workers to stay away from visiting patients
Hyderabad: Health workers who have been assigned the task of visiting TB patients’ homes to give them medication are being asked by the relatives of patients not to do so.
Families say that they do not appreciate the home visits and that they would rather meet the workers at some other location.
Government doctors who are involved in TB eradication programmes have taken note of such comments.
A senior health officer says, “When we find that a patient or his family is very edgy, we counsel the health workers and ask them to set up follow-up meetings at a place that is convenient to them. In some cases, we have had bad experiences where patients and their families have left their homes and moved to other locations.”
Health workers in TB control programmes often deal with the problem of being given incorrect addresses and phone numbers as well.
