Mayor Thottathil Raveendran refutes Mamukoya's allegations

However, the corporation said that there was no encroachment by the private builders in Edakkad wetland area for a flat construction.

Kozhikode: Mayor Thottathil Raveendran has denied the allegations made by actor Mamukoya that the corporation had colluded with the Marad police to demolish the road he had built to his house at Beypore without prior notice. Referring to the charge that the Mayor had deliberately switched off his mobile not to attend to his calls, Mr Raveendran said, “I was out of station and that’s why the phone was not reachable.” Mamukoya already has another road to his house.

The corporation health department on October 27 had demolished the illegal constructions made by residents encroaching on the corporation land at Arakkinar ward, including the concrete pavements to the houses and the arches projected on the corporation land. “The officials concerned had informed the residents about the demolition much in advance. Strict action is required against encroachments which would otherwise cause problems in future,” the Mayor said. “The residents' association in the locality had also given complaints against the encroachments,” he added.

However, the corporation said that there was no encroachment by the private builders in Edakkad wetland area for a flat construction. “The 11-cent wetland in question is not being sued for any construction,” said health standing committee chairman K.V. Baburaj. He didn’t respond to a query that the plan approved by the corporation includes a parking space on the 11-cent wetland.
