Kannur University VC Dr MK Abdul Khader faces VACB court probe on PhD
Kozhikode: Thalassery Vigilance Court (Special) Judge V Jayaram has ordered to register case and investigate the complaint which accused Kannur University Vice Chancellor Dr M.K. Abdul Khader of submitting the PhD well before the stipulated time period and also signed research attendance register and college register simultaneously on the same days. Dr Abdul Khader did his PhD on the subject Patterns of Indians seen in Madhavikutty’s works’ under Dr K.V Surendranath of Government Brennen College, Thalassery.
He registered for the PhD in August 22, 2002 while he was working as an Associate Professor at Kanhangad Nehru College and submitted the thesis in April, 2005. According to prevailing norms of Kannur varsity during that period, the part-time research scholars should submit the work after completing four years. The complaint filed by University Junior Librarian P Surendran, based on the RTI documents possessed, also showed that he had signed the attendance register against the dates such as February 29, 2003, September 31, 2003 and November 31, 2004 which were not in the calendar.
He had also marked duty leave in his college attendance register, Nehru Arts and Science College, Kanhangad and signed in the register at his research centre Brennen College on same days many a times. Earlier in a quick verification report, the Vigilance exonerated the VC citing lack of prima facie evidences. However, the Court found that the report is wrong after the complainant provided his arguments. The Court will conduct consider the case again on December 1.
