Slain Maoist Azad’s wife appears in court

ADILABAD: Slain Maoist Cherukuri Rajkumar’s wife K. Padma attended her husband Azad’s case as an advocate in the Adilabad district court on Friday.

Many got surprised seeing her arriving at the court in the black gown advocates normally wear. She has, however, not argued in the case.

Padma attracted attention as she earlier used to attend Azad’s case in plainclothes along with Babitha, wife of journalist Hemachandra Pande, who had also been killed along with Azad in the alleged encounter in Sarikepalli forest areas of Wankidi mandal on the night of July 1, 2010.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Padma said she had completed her law in 2017 from Pendekanti Law College in Hyderabad and started her practice at the district court in Visakhapatnam, focusing on cases related to Adivasis and their land-related problems.

She clarified that this is the first time that she has come as an advocate to the Adilabad court to attend Azad’s case.
