V M Sudheeran asks K K Shylaja to quit

Dean Kuriakose alleged that corruption to the tune of Rs 50 crore had occurred in connection with admissions to self financing medical colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran has demanded the resignation of Health Minister K.K. Shylaja over the reports that private medical colleges in the state were collecting capitation fees for admissions despite her claims to the contrary. Mr Sudheeran told reporters here on Friday that though earlier Ms Shyalaja had taken a stand that no medical colleges were accepting capitation fees, she later admitted that some private managements might be charging capitation fees

“It is unfortunate that even the government was not sure about the issue and that the minister was frequently changing her stand. She is not fit to sit in the chair of a minister and should quit,” he said. He did not believe that the chief minister was not aware of the compromise talks to end the UDF agitation on the issue of fees in self-financing medical colleges convened by Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan, Mr Sudheeran said.

Meanwhile, Youth Congress president Dean Kuriakose alleged that corruption to the tune of Rs 50 crore had occurred in connection with admissions to self- financing medical colleges. He had submitted a complaint in this regard to Vigilance director Jacob Thomas. Former BJP president V. Muraleedharan, while inaugurating a Yuva Morcha march, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who had sided with self-financing college managements to siphon off crores of rupees, would have to face the same fate as that of former chief minister Oommen Chandy who had aided the solar scam.
