BSF Thrissur unit put on high alert

The training is done on mountainous terrain with modern weapons.

THRISSUR: The BSF training centre in Thrissur at Kainoor in Puthur has been kept on high alert since the Uri attack in Jammu and Kashmir and to face any eventuality in view of the surgical operations in PoK. It is learnt from BSF sources that they were kept on alert for more than a week. The training centre, set up in 2009, is spread across 60 acres and has several hillocks where 1000 BSF men can be trained at a time between three to five years.

The training is done on mountainous terrain with modern weapons. Jawans from here were fully equipped to serve on both the western and eastern frontiers of the country, sources said. As per the requirements of security, a group of personnel were sent to Mumbai a few weeks ago.

The Chief Commandant at the centre had earlier briefed the media that this centre, considered one of the best training centres of the BSF, had been sending jawans to the borders in Kashmir and Punjab. Sources said that said that even before the surgical raids on Thursday, the jawans were alert and fully trained and ready for duty to defend the country.
