RGIA: Security stepped up after hoax bomb call

HYDERABAD: While the person who emailed a bomb hoax threat to the Shamshabad airport three days ago has been traced to Pune, authorities have beefed up security measures at the airport.

According to officials associated with airport security, random screening of passengers’ baggage and physical checks at the pre-embarkation security check (PESC) area, have also been increased as a precautionary measure. Inline screeners have been placed to carry out 100 per cent explosive trace detection of baggage and passengers.

Officials told Deccan Chronicle that though these measures were routine, surveillance has been stepped up in view of the hoax call as a precautionary measure.

Police warned of strict action against anybody making hoax calls or sending messages.

“ Stringent cases will be registered and tough action will be initiated against such persons. A hunt is on to trace the person who had sent the threat mail three days ago and he will soon be nabbed and put behind bars as per the law,” said Shamshabad DCP K. Narayana Reddy.
