80-Year-Old Walks 8km To Tie Rakhi to Brother in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR: Armed with a rakhi and wearing a broad smile on her face was 80-year-old Bakkavva, of Kothapalli village in Maliala mandal of Jagtial, who walked barefoot for eight kilometres to reach Kondaipalli, to meet her younger brother and tie the rakhi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Thursday.

A video of the woman, captured by a passerby, went viral on social media platforms, drawing wide praise and appreciation from netizens.

The passerby who recorded the video said that he noticed the woman walking barefoot on Thursday morning and enquired where she was headed. Bakkavva told him that she was going to visit her younger brother, Gouda Mallesham, as she did every year to tie rakhi on the festive occasion.

She said that Raksha Bandhan is a festival of love and joy that marks the importance of the brother-sister bond. Every sister who ties the rakhi wishes good health and a prosperous life for their brother, she said.
