Kottayam: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has alleged that the confusion over the admissions to the self-financing medical colleges was due to the failure of the LDF government to properly present the case in the Supreme Court. "The Supreme Court stipulated Rs 10 lakh as fees on the basis of the managements' argument that the fees of the previous years were the same. The state government's lawyer could not counter it," he told reporters here on Thursday. The only solution was that the Rajendra Babu committee should fix a fees pattern within a week, he added.
He alleged that there was a conspiracy between the state government and the self- financing college managements and demanded the resignation of Health Minister K.K. Shylaja over the issue. "The fees were not finalised even when the admission procedures were completed. Thousands of students and their parents are confused. The government could have completed the admission procedures within five months," he said. "The managements are selling the seats on the basis of spot admissions. The aim of the Supreme Court while bringing about NEET and merit system was torpedoed by the government's stand," he said. "The lowest rank-holders have got admissions now," he said.
